When you are in a mood that you do not like, what are some strategies that you use to change your mood?

prompt: when i’m feeling like im in a sour mood, i typically resort to taking a breath and drinking water. sometimes it helps to just literally stop everything and stare into space, and mentally evaluate why i feel agitated or frustrated. it also helps to ask my self if im in bad mood because of something i can control, and if the answer is no, i tell myself to calm down. summary: read chapter eight and worked on analyzing key quotes  reflection: learned how to find deeper meaning from a text

1/27 Write about something you’ve outgrown but still miss.

prompt: something i’ve outgrown is the whimsy of christmas. most years my parents and family will ask me what i want or take me shopping to get what i want, so there’s no mystery of waiting to open gifts. obviously there’s still presents to open but majority of the time i know what it is because i asked for it. i do miss the mystery and suspense of being a kid and opening a you that you never thought you’d get. summary: worked on the rest of chapter seven and group work reflection: learned how to collaborate ideas about theme

Write about something that you heard that you wish you could unhear.

prompt: Something i’ve heard that I wish i could unhear was a conversation I overheard from a teacher about how state testing doesn’t really affect the student. Ever since then I didn’t take a state test seriously in all of high school, and it would be nice if I never knew what those standardized tests really meant. summary: added finalized touches to group project with partners

Reflect on a time when you or someone you know had to choose between fitting in and staying true to their identity; what was gained or lost in that experience?

prompt: A time someone chose to fit in over everything else was when I had this friend that thought it was embarrassing to wear the color pink in middle school. Each time she saw someone with the color pink she would say its too girly, and she was only doing that to fit in with a group of boys. I learned that some people will do anything to keep a certain group of companions. summary: worked on group project and used the entire of chapter six to reflect and answer the prompt reflection: learned how to work in a group. . .

prompt: a time I felt physically limited was when I had to wake up very early to catch a flight, and I had only gotten an hour of sleep beforehand. It was incredibly hard to have my bag properly packed and do all the things necessary for getting to the airport because I felt physically exhausted. It taught me that all the times I'd force myself out of bed for school after not sleeping very long, or any other early event, was going to be hard if I didn't get adequate sleep.  summary: worked on reading and answering discussion questions reflection: learned how to analyze pieces of text and discuss them

Write about a time you didn’t feel like yourself.

prompt: A time I didn't feel like myself was when I had first moved to Georgia and was enrolled in a new school. Obviously the environment was different as far as weather and such, but it felt like such a drastic change. The people were different, accents, learning curriculum, everything was different to the point where I felt like an outcast. This made me turn in a shy person, as before I moved I was more open. Though as the years have gone by since then I feel more grounded and like myself. summary: read a bit of chapter 5 and applied the themes in that portion to MLK principles with a group. reflection: practiced how to apply context of a story to an outside theme or principle using details and evidence.

It connects to my love of food and love of being at home.  Summary: read chapter 3 as a group and wrote down and described details and themes about the chapter. reflection:: learned how to analyze key details that make up a theme

Reflect on a time when you had to rely on someone else. How did it feel?

Prompt: A time I had to rely on someone was when I had sprained my ankle in elementary school and had to have it wrapped and in a brace. I was limping when I walked and had to sit out of recess mostly, and I relied on my friend to keep me entertained. It felt good to know she would let me be an inconvenience and sit out of recess for me. Summary: Had a discussion about chapter 1 of wild and discussed interpretations of themes throughout the chapter. reflection: learned how to apply quotes and analysis to a broader theme

In Wild, Cheryl Strayed writes about the difference between deciding to do something and actually committing to it: “There was the first, flip decision to do it, followed by the second, more serious decision to actually do it.” Reflect on a time in your own life when you made a quick or casual decision that later required a deeper commitment. Describe what changed between the first decision and the moment you realized you truly had to follow through. What fears, challenges, or responsibilities became real once the decision was no longer just an idea?

prompt: i’ve been thinking of cutting my hair for a while now. at first it was just a thought because my parents are strict about what i do with my hair, but on the monday before school started i decided to follow through and make the cut. it’s a deep commitment because it’s something i’ve never done before, and i wasn’t necessarily attached to it but i knew it was something my mom would be questionable about. But im glad i decided to do it anyway.  summary: read half of the first chapter of wild and worked to find certain themes throughout the chapter.  reflection: learned how to find and analyze themes within a text.

Write about a moment when you had to step out of your comfort zone.

Prompt:  A time I was out of my comfort zone was when I climbed stone mountain with my family. Summary: Read the prologue of the memoir Wild and answered reflection questions about identity.  Reflection: Learned how to reflect on what identity and traumatic events do to a person and their comfort zone.

Describe a hike, long walk, or outdoor experience you have had and explain what it was like physically and mentally. If you have never been on a hike, describe a time when you were outside your comfort zone or had to rely on yourself in a challenging situation. Explain what you learned from the experience.

prompt: A time i have been on a hike was during peak times of quarantine, when my family decided to climb stone mountain. Considering this was a time when I was spending a lot of time indoors, I was definitely physically exerted. It was sweaty and tiring going up, but once I reached the top I felt a huge sense of accomplishment. It was unlike anything i’d ever done before physically, and being able to rest and take in the view after all that work was mentally rewarding.  I definitely learned to not give up on hard paths. Many time I asked my mom if I could go back down halfway through the climb, but i’m glad i didn’t because the accomplishment feeling was worth it.  Summary: Introduction to “Wild” the memoir, and article read about thru-hikers  Reflection: learned how to apply assumptions and context to a reading and idea.

To accomplish this, I can maintain the same study habits I have that seem to have worked in the past, and stay on top of assignments in classes that I know are more challenging for me. By the time May rolls around, I plan to have steady A's in most, if not all, classes. The second goal I want to accomplish is to have secured a job before graduation. This is important because it can help fund upcoming things like college and changes in lifestyle t...
