Before the Civil War, most people saw nothing wrong with children working long hours. Over time, people began to see it as unfair and even cruel. What is something that society once accepted but now sees as wrong, or something we still accept today that might be viewed as wrong in the future? Explain your reasoning.

Prompt: Something that  used to be acceptable in society that is now shunned is smoking in airports, and all public spaces for that matter. It was widely accepted that people would smoke cigarettes in all public spaces, but especially airports. Nowadays there are plenty of regulations and limitations to the things you can do in an airport, and most airports around the US will have designated smoking areas that are most likely outside the airport altogether. This change in restriction was most likely caused by the tragic 9/11 event, that changed airport security and regulation as a whole from then until present day. Summary: Worked on a commonlit and finished the poem analysis Reflection: Learned how to analyze the main idea of a piece of text

Blake uses the chimney sweepers to expose how society ignores suffering. Reflect on a time when you noticed someone being treated unfairly or saw a situation that didn’t seem right. How does this experience connect to the emotions or ideas expressed in one or both poems?

prompt: A time I witnessed a situation that didn't seem right was a time I was visiting family in NYC and saw this particular homeless guy that camps out in the same spot day after day. He was on the side of a busy road that we were walking on, and plenty of people were stepping over where he was sitting on the sidewalk, and being ignored. This made me feel like the situation was not right because people were acting as if he was a burden and he was deserving of being stepped over and ignored and getting harsh side-glances. It relates to the poem in the way that someones suffering is being deliberately ignored and they have nothing to do but use hope/faith that someone will help them as a way to cope.  summary: worked on reading the last few Blake poems and analyzed theme and topic. reflection: learned how to pluck multiple themes from a poem and summarize them

Describe a time you couldn’t stop laughing.

Prompt: A time I couldn't stop laughing was during an AP exam when someones phone went off 3 times in a row. It was a loud iphone siren that signals the police were being called on accident, then a phone alarm went off twice afterwards. This was only funny because the room was so silent and he ended up being escorted out with everyone staring and laughing under their breath reflection: learned how to make a one pager summary: finished working on one pager

In "The Lamb" and "The Tyger", both poems suggest that beauty and danger can come from the same source. Describe a time when something or someone you admired also scared or challenged you. How did that experience change the way you see the world or the idea of “goodness”?

Prompt: A time that something I admired had also been considered scary is during a thunderstorm. Though there was crackling lightning and loud thunder, as well as a threat of the power going out, I found the crackle of light across the sky to be very beautiful. I think nature and weather is most intriguing when it is extreme, like hurricanes or tornadoes, even though it is threatening to humans and our cities.  Summary: Received one-pager assignment and started to work on pager that's meant to compare the poems "the lamb" and "the tyger" Reflection: Practiced how to analyze poems and find their themes

What do you know about your birth

prompt: What I know is that my birth was unpredictable, that I came out two weeks later than I was expected to. I don't know much about what the birth process was like, but I know my mom had an epidural which she complains is the reason her back hurts to this day. I was born in the evening around 6pm, and it was suggested my mom had a c-section but she decided to go with natural birth. Afterwards she had to get a lot of stitches. I wasn't explicitly named after a 2000's girl group singer, but that is where my mom got inspiration for my name.  summary: Read two poems by William Blake and analyzed what they represent and the imagery/meaning of both. reflection: Practiced analyzing poems and understanding comparisons and diction

What did you do over the break?

Prompt: Over the break I worked on finalizing my applications for a couple of colleges, as well as finishing my personal statement. I also spent some time with my mom and friends, doing activities like painting pumpkins and baking.

How do you find time to enjoy your day, even when you have a lot going on? Write about at least three specific things you do to enjoy small moments throughout your day.

prompt: How I find time to enjoy my day even when I'm stressed out is by debriefing with my mom. I love to talk about how my day is with her because it calms me down and sometimes she also offers me advice. I also like to have a good meal, take a nap, or listen to music as a way to calm down and enjoy little things throughout the day. summary: Took the Fences test reflection: Understood the characters and applied the knowledge to the test

Describe a time when someone’s words had a lasting impact on you.

Prompt: A time someones legs had a lasting effect on me was when my friend once told me I was a great listener. Even though it was a simple passing compliment, it meant a lot to me that a friend considered me a safe place where someone actually listened to her. It made me work hard to make sure that other people also felt like I was a safe place for them, and it ended up being a trait I took pride in.  summary: watched presentations of everyone's analysis of the book characters reflection: Learned a deeper understanding of how everyone analyzed the character

Write about a moment when you had to step out of your comfort zone.

prompt: a time I stepped out of my comfort zone was when I had to speak in front of a group during an internship I participated in one summer. It was a very nerve wracking experience considering there were adults there watching the speech and also about 30 of my peers summary: worked on poster and added finalized touches to the writing reflection: fully developed an understanding of characterizing Troy

Write about a dream that felt real.

prompt: I once had a dream that I was being chased by a squirrel , it felt very hyper realistic because the scenery was an old neighborhood I lived in, and once I woke up my heart was beating from feeling as though I had actually ran a marathon away from this squirrel summary: worked on poster and finished up characterization reflection: learned how to analyze the character of troy

What would you do: tell your friend to confess, tell their partner yourself, or stay quiet? Explain your choice, using ideas about loyalty and consequences from Fences. How might your decision affect everyone involved?

Prompt: If I was in this situation I would tell the partner. I make this decision on the basis that I have been friends with my friends partner for enough time for our relationship to be well established, I would feel immensely guilty for not telling them about the betrayal happening behind their back. Now if I knew that my friend was 100% going to confess to their wrongdoings, I would leave it to my friend and their partner to sort things out on their own. Though in this case if my friend is being dodgy about fixing it and it doesn't seem like they want to be honest, I would intervene for the sake of my friend.   Summary: Worked on reading a few scenes in Fences and started drafting the poster creation. Reflection: Gained more insight about the climax of Fences and enough information to get a good feel on the characterization of the main characters.
