Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks and spending time with family over a nice dinner. Write about your most unforgettable meal.

Prompt: My most unforgettable meal was on my birthday this year when my mom took me to a very nice restaurant. It was a steakhouse downtown and I had a nice medium rare steak and a small tiramisu dessert. This was probably the best meal I've ever had  summary: read letter 41-45 and took a short quiz regarding those letters. reflection: learned how to apply the letters I read and answer questions regarding them

These letters show how Celie learns from the people around her, even in small ways. Think of someone in your life who influences you in a positive, everyday way—a friend, relative, teacher, or teammate. Write about what you’ve learned from them and how their influence shows up in your daily life.

prompt: a person that has influenced me is my mother. I think that she positively influences me in a way that helps me stay motivated in school and throughout life. She always gives me advice when I'm stressed and she is always my first reference when it comes to someone who is inspiring and has qualities that I would like to take on one day. It shows up everyday when I'm working on schoolwork or even dealing with stressful social situations and remembering what my mom tells me about being levelheaded and reasonable.  summary: worked on reading a few more chapters and analyzing Celie's growth reflection: learned how to further analyze a text

Creating a video is more than just placing pictures together—it’s about capturing a feeling. Explain how you tried to bring your assigned letter to life in your Adobe Express video. What mood were you aiming for, and how did your editing choices help you communicate the message or emotion of the letter?

Prompt: I was assigned letter 5, and the mood I was trying to create was one that shows hope amidst adversity. Celie, in the letter, expresses how she is hoping Nettie can move on from their troubled home life with Pa and marry Mr. __. She hopes that Nettie can become pregnant and in general further her life. I wanted to portray Celie's initial despair with Pa's mistreatment by using somber music and images, and transitioning to something more hopeful by using coming-of-age music and videos to show how shes hoping for Nettie to live a better life than she is. Music definitely played a big part is portraying a sad/hopeful mood. Summary: watched presentations of everyone's video analysis and showed my own. Reflection: Got to see how everyone interpreted their chapters and put visuals to a theme

At the end of Letter 21, Celie and Sofia share a rare moment of laughter that softens the tension between them. Write about a time when you and a sibling or family member shared an unexpected moment of joy after things had been tense or confusing. Explain how that moment helped bring you closer.

Prompt: A time I shared an unexpected moment of happiness with family is during the holidays when I went to visit them and the flight for me to get home ended up being delayed. I was with my parents and even though the flight being delayed seemed like a big inconvenience, we ended up bonding and laughing and having a good time in the airport, making the most of what we were given. It was unexpected given the airport seems like a boring place, and it made me feel closer to them. summary: finalized video project. reflection: learned how to turn book themes and quotes into visionary stories

11/12 Celie tells Harpo to “beat” Sofia because she believes that’s how men control women, but this advice causes pain and conflict. Think about a time when someone gave you advice that sounded right at first but ended up being wrong. How did it affect your situation or relationships? What lesson did you learn about thinking for yourself?

Prompt: A time that someone gave me advice that ended up being bad was in elementary school. A kid that I was friends with ended up convincing me it was a good idea to skip. We ended up getting in trouble and my mom scolded me very hard, and I never took that advice to "live a little" again.  summary: read a few chapters and started on the video project reflection: learned how to visualize themes and tone from a book into a video

11/11 Letters 11–16 show how relationships can be full of misunderstanding and pressure. Harpo wants love, but he also wants power. Sofia wants freedom, not control. Reflect on a time when someone’s desire for control hurt a friendship or relationship. What advice would you give to Harpo or Sofia if you could?

prompt: Advice I would give to Harpo and Sofia is to set boundaries between them. Communication is very important in relationships, and if Harpo and Sofia are having disagreements on how to balance power, the solution is to talk about what they want control over in the relationship. If they set boundaries it will become easier for both of them to have the dynamic they want. summary: read a few of the letters and analyzed the content. reflection: learned how to analyse the characters and the intents behind their actions

11/10 In letters 6 -10, we see how Celie starts noticing the strength of people around her, like Shug Avery’s independence and confidence. Think about someone in your life who inspires you to be stronger or more confident. What qualities do they have that you admire and try to learn from?

prompt: Someone in my life that inspires me to be stronger is my mother. I admire her qualities of being able to problem solve through hardships and always calming me down even when the situation is difficult for both of us. Shes smart and a quick thinker, and it inspires me to also make sure I have a good head on my shoulders. summary: read some of the letters and answered a few critical thinking questions reflection: learned how to analyze letters from the book

After reading the first five letters of The Color Purple, reflect on your thoughts and emotions as you experienced Celie’s early voice and struggles.

Prompt: Reading the first five letters has really forced me as a reader to put myself in a position I have never been in, and empathize with an unfamiliar situation. Emotionally it made me feel angry and hurt for Celie, and the uncomfortable language made me feel deeply empathetic and angry for the character.  Summary: Answered critical thinking questions about language and theme of overlooked stories, and read the first five letters of The Color Purple, as well as doing a preface on the story. Reflection: Learned a backstory of The Color Purple and read the beginning of the story.
