After reading the first five letters of The Color Purple, reflect on your thoughts and emotions as you experienced Celie’s early voice and struggles.

 Prompt: Reading the first five letters has really forced me as a reader to put myself in a position I have never been in, and empathize with an unfamiliar situation. Emotionally it made me feel angry and hurt for Celie, and the uncomfortable language made me feel deeply empathetic and angry for the character.
