In Letters 46–50, Celie begins to see Albert more clearly—his flaws, his regrets, and the ways he changes when he is no longer in complete control of her. Their relationship slowly shifts from fear and dominance to honesty and distance. Write about a relationship in your life that changed over time as you grew older or more aware. What made the dynamic shift, and how did your understanding of that person evolve?

prompt: A relationship that changed over time for me was my dad. At first I used to think he was really cold and the only thing he did was work, but as I got older I realized that he was doing a lot to provide for me and my mom and didn't have time to show off all the other sides he had. What changed for me was one time on my birthday when he had flew to Georgia and spent three days with me to celebrate. It really let me see all the hard work he put in and also appreciate him more as a person and not just a dad.

Blake uses the chimney sweepers to expose how society ignores suffering. Reflect on a time when you noticed someone being treated unfairly or saw a situation that didn’t seem right. How does this experience connect to the emotions or ideas expressed in one or both poems?
