What part of your culture, family, or identity do you feel “travels” with you everywhere you go?

 Prompt: A part of my culture that I feel follows me around is respecting strangers/elders. It was instilled in me as a child as a part of family values to always respect someone even if you don't know them, and especially to respect your elders. Now even as a teenager I still carry those values and do my best to be respectful to everyone Summary: Read story by Judith Ortiz and answered questions about stereotypes from a Latin womans experience Reflection: Learned how to deeper understand others perspective on stereotypes through a story.

Write about an experience when someone assumed something about you because of a stereotype. What was the situation, and what did you do?

 Prompt: A time i experienced a stereotype was in elementary school, when my dad had came to pick me up instead of my mom like usual. The lady in the front desk asked if he was my uncle before asking if he was my father, and seemed shocked for a split second when he stated his relationship to me before regrouping and being professional. It was short but as I got older i realized why she was surprised, the assumption that i wouldn’t have a father summary: worked on stereotype worksheet reflection: learned the harmful affects of stereotypes on different demographics 

Describe something you will never fully understand.

 Prompt: Something I will never fully understand is how time really work. What constitutes the beginning of time and who was there to determine time began? How is time infinite if humans are not? Who will be there at the end of time??? Summary: Listened to everyone's culture poem presentations. Reflection: Learned how other people identify through poetry.

Write about something that you wish you had more of.

 Prompt: I wish I had more time because I love being a teenager and there are some things I wish I could've done more of before turning 18 and having to move on to college Summary: Worked on cultural identity poem and watched Lakeside news. Reflection: learned how to articulate my identity into poetry.

What is the most creative thing you have ever made? Share what it was and explain why it stands out as your best work.

  Prompt: The most creative thing I've ever made was my Roblox TikTok account that got 1,000 followers. This was my best work because it really reflected my love for Roblox and I got an audience out of it. Summary: Worked on and drafted a reflective poem about identity. Read poem about Korean-American identity. Reflection: Learned how to articulate cultural identity into a poem. 

Everyone has burning questions about life. Mysteries we wonder about but don’t always have clear answers for. Think about your biggest questions about existence, purpose, or the world around you. Write a blog post where you share at least two of your most burning questions about life and explain why these questions matter to you.

 Prompt: My burning questions are: "Whats the meaning of life?" and "What does it mean to win at life?" These questions matter to me because they dive into not just the meaning in life but identifying a purpose and motive for living, which can have such varying answers depending on who you ask.  Summary: Read "I, Too" and analyzed cultural identity pieces of it. Reflection: Learned how to analyze a poem for parts of identity.

Describe a time when you felt completely lost.

 Prompt: A time I felt completely lost was during the first day of school in third grade, not only had i moved to a new school but I was coming from a completely different state (nyc). I felt lost trying to navigate the norms of how people acted in Georgia and also having to make all new friends. Summary: Presented cultural identity masks and viewed others. Reflection: Learned about the cultural identity of my peers.

  Prompt Response:  I've adapted to the demands by using a planner to organize homework, it helps me plan ahead and keep track of dates so i'm not stressing to finish at the last minute Summary: Finished working on mask and started on mask reflection paragraphs. Reflection:  I learned how to express my cultural identity in words and reflect on my identity.   

Describe how gender roles or patriarchy influence your identity?

 Prompt: Gender roles/patriarchy influence me by the way I act around others. Because gender roles were a part of the culture I grew up with, it was instilled in me to be proper around men and even to be careful. It also influences my identity with the way I dress or act, subconsciously or not its more feminine which is a product of societal norms and roles. Summary: Worked on cultural mask and watched identity short film. Reflection: Learned about cultural identity and how its personal to me. 

Describe a meaningful family tradition unique to your culture and explain how it mirrors or contrasts with the cultural identity themes of expectations and roles in "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid.

  Prompt Response:  In my culture it's very important to respect your elders and learn how to provide, whether for yourself or for your family/partner. Self-preservation is important and thats similar to the theme of the story in the way the mother wants the daughter to preserve her image by being proper and poise.  Summary: Answered discussion questions and took pictures. Reflection: Learned how to write a blog post.

  Prompt Response:  My cultural heritage shapes my expectations by my family expecting me to carry myself a certain way. They expect me to care about my education and take school seriously, as well as having self-respect with the way I dress and such.  Summary: Read "Girl" and discussed cultural identity Reflection:  I learned how other people's culture handles gender roles and such.
